2024 Tarflow Text Analysis (Workshop IV): Event Record

The Tarflow Text Analysis Workshop is the final workshop of the year for the alliance. It will be held at Songshan Cultural and Creative Park in Taipei, providing an opportunity for member companies, academic members, and potential members from central and northern Taiwan to learn about the functions and operations of the text analysis workflow platform. The workshop will be conducted both in-person and online, with on-site and online teaching assistants available. The course includes hands-on practice sessions, during which participants can receive immediate guidance and problem-solving support.

The workshop began with a speech by Professor Huang San-Yi, the alliance host, who provided an overview of the alliance’s mission, technical services, and ongoing industry-academia collaboration projects. As the fourth workshop in 2024, this introduction offered participants deeper insights into the alliance’s work. The session set the stage for attendees to experience the functionalities of digital tools through hands-on practice during the workshop.

The workshop continued with a lecture by Ph.D. student Chang Chia-Ming, who presented on the day’s topics: “Word Clouds and Sentiment Analysis Cases” and “Topic Modeling Cases.” Chang guided participants through three key areas of learning: data preprocessing, sentiment analysis, and topic modeling, offering step-by-step instruction and practical insights into each process.

The session began with an introduction to the basic functionalities of the text analysis platform, including data scraping and other foundational elements. Designed for beginners, the course allowed participants to start from the basics. On-site teaching assistants were readily available to provide guidance whenever participants encountered issues.

Through the hands-on exercises, attendees gained practical knowledge of how to use the platform, covering tasks such as data scraping, preprocessing, sentence segmentation, and handling stopwords. By the end of the session, participants were able to generate processed outputs and create word clouds, showcasing the platform’s capabilities.

The workshop concluded with a dedicated interactive session, allowing participants to ask questions and engage in discussions with fellow attendees and instructors.

The alliance also announced plans to hold an end-of-year exchange meeting in January next year, encouraging all members to participate actively and continue supporting and engaging with the alliance’s initiatives.
