The 2026 TARFlow Introductory Workshop, organized by the “Text Mining and Digital Transformation Service Industry-Academia Alliance,” introduced one of the alliance’s core technologies — the TARFlow text analysis workflow platform. The event was conducted in both onsite and online formats. Through practical examples and hands-on activities, participants gained an intuitive understanding of how text mining technologies can be applied to research and analytical tasks.
The workshop opened with remarks by Assistant Professor Lo Pei-Chi, who highlighted how the TARFlow platform lowers the barrier to text analysis by enabling users to rapidly complete data analysis and visualization workflows without extensive programming knowledge. The course began with foundational concepts and gradually guided participants through platform operations, allowing them to apply the techniques to their own research topics and analytical needs.
Next, alliance team member Chang Chia-Ming introduced the core workflow of text analysis and further explained the fundamental concepts of web scraping and Data APIs. Participants learned about the characteristics and limitations of different data sources, including online forums, news websites, and social media platforms.
After establishing foundational knowledge, participants engaged in practical exercises through a task-oriented learning approach to deepen their understanding of text analysis workflows and applications. Attendees personally operated the TARFlow platform and completed a full text analysis process step by step, ranging from data cleaning to sentiment classification. Teaching assistants were available throughout the session to provide immediate support and troubleshooting, significantly enhancing the learning experience.
At the end of the workshop, a networking and discussion session was arranged for members to share operational experiences, suggestions, and application ideas. The alliance will continue organizing technical exchange and hands-on activities in the future to promote the implementation and application of AI technologies across various fields. In 2026, the alliance will continue advancing industry-academia collaboration and digital transformation initiatives. In addition to this workshop series, upcoming activities will include technical workshops, international exchanges, and forum events. The next major event is scheduled for late June as a co-hosted forum, followed by an advanced TARFlow workshop planned for September. Members are warmly encouraged to participate.
