To promote the exchange and application of text mining, Generative AI, and AI research tools within academia, and to strengthen collaboration between the Industry-Academia Alliance and university faculty and researchers, the Online Academic Exchange and Information Session was held on September 7. Academic members and faculty members who had previously participated in the Alliance’s workshops were invited to join the session. Through research experience sharing, comparisons of AI tools, and interactive discussions, participants gained a better understanding of the practical applications of AI technologies in academic research.
The session was hosted by Professor San-Yih Hwang, Principal Investigator of the project and Professor in the Department of Information Management at National Sun Yat-sen University. In addition to introducing the Alliance and its technology services, Professor Hwang shared practical experiences in applying text mining to academic research, focusing on the use of text mining technologies for research data processing and analysis. The session helped participants better understand the potential applications of text mining in academic research.
The session then introduced the differences between Tarflow and ChatGPT for research applications, covering aspects such as data processing, text analysis, research workflows, and AI-assisted research. The Tarflow Text Analysis Workflow Platform enables users to conduct text analysis through workflow-based and No-Code operations, while ChatGPT provides natural-language interaction and Generative AI capabilities. Depending on specific research needs, the two tools can be used in combination to improve the efficiency of data analysis and academic research.
An interactive discussion and exchange session was also arranged, providing an opportunity for participating faculty members to share their research interests, data analysis needs, and experiences with AI tools. Through the discussion, participants exchanged ideas on AI applications and explored potential opportunities for future academic and research collaboration.
The session concluded with a preview of the upcoming Tarflow Workshop, scheduled for October 23. Faculty members and students interested in text mining and AI applications were encouraged to participate in the hands-on workshop, where they can gain practical experience with text analysis workflows and related AI technologies.
Overall, this online academic exchange session provided an efficient and accessible platform for faculty members and researchers to gain a better understanding of the applications of text mining and Generative AI in academic research, while also introducing the Alliance’s resources for technology exchange and academic collaboration. Moving forward, the Alliance will continue to organize academic exchange sessions and workshops to strengthen connections between academic research and industry practice, and to promote the practical application of AI and text mining technologies across a wider range of research and industry fields.
