Date & Time: April 17, 2026 (Friday), 18:30–21:30
Venue: College of Management Building I, Guangfu Campus, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University

The 2026 “Text Mining and Digital Transformation Service Industry-Academia Alliance,” in collaboration with the Department of Information Management and Finance at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, organized the “Financial News Text Mining Workshop” to promote the application of text mining technologies in the financial domain. Through a structured curriculum, the workshop guided participants in understanding practical workflows for text data processing and analysis, enhancing their data analytics and application capabilities.

The workshop began with an introduction to the Tarflow workflow platform by Mr. Tsai Yi-Hang, Ph.D. Candidate. He explained the system architecture and operational framework of the text mining platform, helping participants build a comprehensive understanding. An on-site teaching assistant was also available to support hands-on exercises and resolve technical issues, allowing participants to experience the platform’s functionalities in real time.

The session then moved on to text data preprocessing, covering essential steps such as data cleaning, word segmentation, and stop-word removal, which form the foundation for subsequent analysis.

After a short break, the course proceeded to lexical and document analysis. Through practical case studies, participants learned how to extract key information and features from textual data, followed by an introduction to basic document classification methods, enabling them to understand how textual features can be applied in classification tasks. The workshop concluded with an interactive Q&A session, during which participants actively engaged in discussions and clarified questions related to system operation and practical applications.

Overall, the workshop was well-structured, progressing from fundamental concepts to practical applications. It not only strengthened participants’ understanding of text mining workflows but also enhanced their ability to apply these techniques in financial data analysis. The event received positive feedback from participants and concluded successfully. As the alliance enters its fifth year of operation, it will continue to promote industry-academia collaboration and digital transformation in 2026. In addition to this workshop series, upcoming activities include international exchanges and thematic forums. A Tarflow introductory workshop is planned for early May, followed by an advanced workshop in September. Interested participants are warmly encouraged to join.
